President Andrew Jackson A Conflict of Interest Essay

Andrew Jackson is without doubt one of the most influential, controversial, and scandalous presidents that held the office. His ideas created the Democratic Party. His creation of the Democratic Party escalated tensions in Washington D.C. and across the political landscape. These actions led to the creation of an opposing second party. His extreme policies and loose interpretation of the US Constitution affected expansion, commerce, and politics of the nation domestically as well as in the international arena. Andrew Jackson’s loose interpretation of the Constitution is validated by his statement â€Å"Each public officer who takes an oath to support the Constitution swears that he will support it as he understands it, and not as it is†¦show more content†¦This prompted many to blame Jackson’s policies for the depression and turn back to central banking and easy credit, thus ensuring that America would join the rest of the major countries of the world in carr ying a hefty national debt.(Walter) Jackson also failed to realize that if there is money to be handled there must be a way to store it and keep track of the money. Jackson denied the rights of Congress given to Congress in Article 1, section 8, clauses 1-3 of the United States Constitution. This section gives Congress the right to â€Å"lay and collect taxes; to borrow money; to regulate commerce; to declare and conduct a war; and to raise and support armies.† (Library of Congress) The point of conflict is that even though the right of the federal government to create a national bank is not stated it is implied because without a bank there is nowhere to store money allotted through this clause. In McCulloch v. Maryland (1819) it was determined that â€Å"Congress may incorporate banks and kindred institutions† (US Supreme Court Cases Opinions.) which established a precedence that was overlooked by President Jackson. Often people interpret Jackson as a free market supporter. Free market supporters assert that the government has little influence or interference in economic affairs, which is known as laissez faire. The idea of President Jackson’s being a free market supporter is factiousShow MoreRelatedAndrew Jackson And The Removal Policy820 Words   |  4 Pages The seventh president of the United States; Andrew Jackson, was not only notorious for his success as a general but also for his actions as president. Theories of sociology free essay sample

Abstract The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three basic theories of sociology. The three basic theories of sociology are functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These theories are studied on the micro or macro level. The micro level is the sum of interactions between people and groups. The micro level analysis is based on small groups and individuals versus the macro level which is viewed on a larger scale and looks at society as a whole. In the functional theory members of society share a common interest of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the conflict theory there is a constant struggle between resources and it varies upon social changes. In the symbolic interactionism theory peoples behaviors are examined in their day to day interactions with each other. CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY In order to understand the classic theories of sociology we must be able to define what sociology means in full definition. We will write a custom essay sample on Theories of sociology or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Sociology is the study of how humans act in society and how the groups they belong to affect them as a person. Through my research, I have found the three classic theories of sociology are as follows 1) functional perspective, 2) conflict perspective, and 3) symbolic interactionist perspective. Now that we have listed the three classic theories we can take a deeper look at each perspective individually. The functionalist perspective also known as the social-function theory is a stable and orderly system that is composed of members that share a common set of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the functionalist perspective society serves as a function and contributes to the stability of the society. The functionalist perspective is analyzed on the macro level. Societies develop social structures or institutions such as schools, churches, and government agencies. Institutions provide educational opportunities, religious practices, and provide citizens with their social needs. The smoothness of how these institutions affect the community depends on how the systems function whether it be functional or disfunctional. The second theory is the conflict perspective that is also referred to as social-conflict. The conflict perspective is viewed as a situation where groups in society are engaged in a continuous power struggle for control of resources or resources that are highly unattainable. The conflict perspective is analyzed on the macro level. Conflicts vary from politics to family discussions about financial spending. The conflict perspective isn’t based solely on one specific problem area. The conflict perspective focuses on three different areas such as: 1) struggles between different social classes of society that creates social changes, 2) racial-ethnic inequalities and exploitation of members, 3) the feminist perspective which supports equal rights for women. CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY The third theory is the symbolic interactionist perspective that is also known as symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionist perspectives are examined by following the patterns of individuals day to day interactions and behaviors displayed in groups. Symbolic interactionist perspectives are analyzed on the micro level by focusing on individuals and small groups. Symbolic interaction is basically understood when people use symbols to communicate. Symbols are something that is meaningful to the person like a home that belongs to a family. Symbols can be portrayed by someones facial expression, tone of voice, or body language. These three theories can compare and differ in a few ways and by researching them I have found that the functionalist perspective and conflict perspective are both analyzed on the macro level. The symbolic interactionist perspective is analyzed on the micro level which is a whole different perspective and way to view how theories work by focusing on small scale groups. All three of the theories focus on society and how it is affected by members in societies behaviors. One change or shift in society can either make optimal opportunities to the community or create the start of a downward spiral. I have found that all three theories are based on society and how an individual person or a group of people acts or behaves greatly affects each of these theories. It is amazing the amount of changes that a person can go through by having to deal with social changes. Lastly, in order to explain which theory best describes our social reality we need to define what social reality means. Social reality is basically created through social interactions, individual motives, and actions. It is a little difficult for me to choose one theory that relates to our social reality that we live in today. I feel that we could easily fall under each theory depending on the circumstances. The functionalist theory is made up of different parts that all work together like a puzzle to build stability or a strong foundation. This theory involves CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY families and large communities that have a strong bond formed to support one another. We must support and invest in our schools and churches to make a difference in our community. If we lose our church due to lack of finances then our community could lose its faith. The conflict theory is generally when there is a struggle for resources. Let’s face it, today we as a society are struggling with obtaining resources needed as the cost of living has increased in the last five years and with gas prices soaring, food products are sold in smaller packages yet the cost is still rising, and minimum wage is not enough to pay the bills. In my neighborhood, people are struggling all around me and clearly unable to meet their social needs. A majority of the people rely on the work link bus or public access to get to their destination. They are on public welfare and living off of food stamps, social security, and/or have been laid off due to employment cuts. The symbolic interactionist theory also relates to our social reality because it shows how behaviors are learned by interactions with others. We as a society can view symbols as a generous way of interpreting how others feel about us. For example, we have Valentine’s Day coming up this week and a lot of people feel that this is a way that we can show our significant others how we care about them. I personally would like some flowers and some dark chocolate candy but if my procrastinating boyfriend doesn’t go out until late that day and comes home with some random things I will still be happy and appreciate his efforts. So, for some people in society we require symbols as proof that our relationships our valuable to one another. Other members of society feel that symbols are unnecessary and feel confident with their relationships to require such things. I guess it depends on the person, time, and situation to determine which theory that our society relates to best. Throughout our lifetime we can experience each of these theories personally and relate to each one individually. We as humans experience great social changes in life and that’s what makes life so interesting!

The Character of Jesus

The Author’s Intent The author of the book intends to provoke those proclaiming to be Christians to develop a deeper and unwavering commitment to Christ and to encourage those not already professing Christianity, to have an interest and craving for it, and to convince them to follow a Christian way of living.Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on The Character of Jesus specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More He wants to discredit those depicting the New Testament as being implausible and outlandish to provide a true character of Jesus Christ, that though it might not be flawless, it actually suffices to deliver God’s message to humanity. He aspires to provide testimonials that may encourage others to become Christians (Jefferson 39). Synopsis Jefferson strives to convince the reader to become a Christian. He begins by explaining why some people actually forsake Christianity in favor of other religions. He notes that some people will shun Christianity, not because it is a loathed and undesirable religion, but because of the initial influence from those who claim to be Christians. He notes that many have been discouraged by Christianity because they preferred to join it through episcopal means. This might be through someone who professes Christianity, but has been inconsistent or pharisaical. Another instance is where the local church does not have a true Christian foundation. This usually results in someone shunning Christianity in his/her entire life. However, Jefferson suggests that the best way to become a Christian is through a study of his character. He states that neither professing Christianity nor making bigoted assertions are ways to become a Christian. He suggests that one should be interested in Jesus’s character other than in his outer life (Jefferson 37).Advertising Looking for book review on religion theology? Let's see if we can help you! He states how Jesus in the midst of a detestable set of inexorable detractors and murderers, stood forth unruffled and steadfast in God’s ways. He also describes Jesus as a reasonable person, original, trustful, brotherly, optimistic, patient, humble and holy. The author’s Accomplishments Jefferson has achieved his mission of explaining the character of Jesus, through direct quotations from the four gospels in the New Testament. His Justifications of Jesus’ character form a strong basis of trying to convince the reader to follow Christianity. He explains the character of Jesus by considering his life as explained by those he came into contact with. For instance, he presents Jesus’ reasonableness on topics such as fasting, the Sabbath, prayer and swearing. He uses examples of how people react to a fallen horse on the street of an American city and a dru nken man in the same street. He explains Jesus’ originality by quoting how he proclaimed himself to be the light of the world, bread and water of life, the only good shepherd, the way, the truth, the life and mediator between God and man (Jefferson 102). In epitomizing Jesus as trustful, he notes how he was persecuted, scorned, maligned, abused, and even execrated. He was incriminated of blasphemy and of treason, but his trust in God remained steadfast.Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on The Character of Jesus specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More His brotherliness is shown in the manner he ate, talked and even visited the homes of those shunned and despised as unholy by society. What Is a Perfect Square

What Is a Perfect Square SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips What is a perfect square? How do you know if a number is a perfect square? In this article, we’ll define perfect squares, provide a list of the first 25 perfect squares (and the integers that make them up), and teach you how to tell if a number is a perfect square. What Is a Perfect Square? A perfect square is a number that can be expressed as the product of two equal integers. What does that mean? Basically, a perfect square is what you get when you multiply two equal integers by each other. For instance: $$5 * 5 = 25$$ 25 is a perfect square because you’re multiplying two equal integers (5 and 5) by each other. You can also express $5 * 5$ as $5^2$. That’s where you get the term â€Å"perfect square† List of Perfect Squares Here’s a list of the first 25 perfect squares. A hint: if you want to create a perfect square, simply square an integer! Square Integers 1 $1 * 1$ 4 $2 * 2$ 9 $3 * 3$ 16 $4 * 4$ 25 $5 * 5$ 36 $6 * 6$ 49 $7 * 7$ 64 $8 * 8$ 81 $9 * 9$ 100 $10 * 10$ 121 $11 * 11$ 144 $12 * 12$ 169 $13 * 13$ 196 $14 * 14$ 225 $15 * 15$ 256 $16 * 16$ 289 $17 * 17$ 324 $18 * 18$ 361 $19 * 19$ 400 $20 * 20$ 441 $21 * 21$ 484 $22 * 22$ 529 $23 * 23$ 576 $24 * 24$ 625 $25 * 25$ How to Tell If a Number Is a Perfect Square You can tell if a number is a perfect square in a couple of different ways. First of all, if you create a square by multiplying two equal integers by each other, then the product is a perfect square. So, $1 * 1$ is a perfect square. So is $10 * 10$ and $1,000 * 1,000$. You can also tell if a number is a perfect square by finding its square roots. Finding the square root is the inverse (opposite) of squaring a number. If you find the square root of a number and it’s a whole integer, that tells you that the number is a perfect square. For instance, the square root of 25 is 5. The square root of 26 is not a whole integer. So, 26 is not a perfect square. Key Takeaways: Understanding Perfect Squares A perfect square is a number that can be expressed as the product of two equal integers. You can tell if a number by finding its square root and seeing if that square root is a whole integer. What's Next? Getting ready to take the ACT? Elements, Mixtures and Compounds Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Elements, Mixtures and Compounds - Essay Example For example, a mixture of iron and sulfur can be taken in any proportion while a compound such as iron (II) sulfide always has a ratio of 7 : 4 by mass of iron and sulfur (Leong & Aik, 2009). When a mixture is prepared by mixing two or more substances, there is no chemical exchange involved and there is absence of heat or light production. When a compound is prepared, it is usually accompanied with a chemical change in which some heat, light or both are liberated. For example, when a mixture is prepared by mixing iron filings and sulfur, no heat is liberated. However, when hot iron filings and sulfur are taken together in a test tube, a chemical reaction occurs resulting in the formation of iron sulfide (Fe + S ?FeS). The test tube glows red because of heat produced during the reaction (Leong & Aik, 2009). The properties of a mixture are characteristic of the individual substances mixed. On the contrary, the properties of a compound are very different from those of the original eleme nts. For example, in a mixture of iron filings and sulfur, properties such as magnetism, color, texture of the individual substances are retained. Iron sulfide, a compound, has very different properties from those of iron and sulfur. It lacks magnetic activity and also has different physical and chemical properties (Leong & Aik, 2009). ... 2) Supposed that you have a pure substance, how can you tell whether it is a compound or an element?   An element cannot be further broken down chemically, while a compound can be broken down into individual components or elements using chemical reactions specific for that compound. For example, heating mercuric oxide, which is a compound, over a Bunsen flame, will result in the decomposition and separation of mercuric oxide into mercury and oxygen. However, mercury and oxygen, which are elements, cannot be further broken down using any chemical means (Leong & Aik, 2009). Therefore, in order to tell whether a given pure compound is an element or a compound, it will be subjected to various separation procedures to determine if it can be broken down further. Its melting and boiling points and other physical and chemical properties will also be noted and compared with those of preexisting elements and compounds for ease of identification. 3) What is the difference between an ionic and a covalent bond? Chemical bonds such as ionic and covalent bonds determine the properties of a compound. The main differences between the two kinds of bonds are discussed as follows: Ionic bond is formed when electrons are transferred from one atom to another. The transfer of electrons results in the formation of a positive and a negative ion that are held together by strong electrostatic attraction. For example, salt (NaCl) is formed when an electron from sodium (Na) is transferred to chlorine (Cl) to form ions (Na+ and Cl- ) that are held together to form salt (NaCl). Covalent bond is formed when an electron pair from the outer shell is shared between two atoms. For instance, Hydrochloric acid

Analytical Method - Essay Example This formed the problem statement for the article thereby triggering the researchers to seek for the most appropriate tools and techniques for achieving their objectives. In which case, the researchers provide the theoretical background asserting that the chemical analysis of GSR can either focus on inorganic or organic components of the analyte therein. Intuitively, flame ionization detector (FID), thermal energy analysis (TEA), electron capture detector (ECD) and mass spectrometry (MS) together with Gas chromatography are important aspects which could be considered in this OGSR analysis. For the methods and materials, the use of MS/MS mode guided in explicit identification of target analyte. The researchers majorly focused on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) coupled with GC; as evident in the use of LC–MS grade methanol used in the mobile phase and in Chromatographic analysis was performed on an Agilent 1200 Series HPLC system coupled with a hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The QTOF system was core to facilitating analysis in MS or MS/MS mode. The researchers carried out accurate mass measurement of the precursor ion, within MS spectra, mass measurement of the most specific product ion, and the retention time of the analyte compared with the retention time of the standard. Swabs were compared with home-modified tape lift supports covered with a PTFE layer to determine the better sampling technique. The modified tape lift provided better extraction recoveries and enabled the analysis of inorganic and organic G SR simultaneously. In Optimization of LC–QTOF in MS/MS mode parameters, different columns were tested to ensure optimization of the composition of the mobile phase through unequivocally separating and ionizing the analytes. In which case, chances for getting false positive and false negative results

Descartes and David Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Descartes and David - Essay Example Researcher and philosopher would have to decide whether to go where with which type of inquiry method. Empirical method of inquiry to which Mr. David Hume belongs is basically the research which is based on the direct experiences and observations made. This method is adopted usually to test a hypothesis drawn for a research. Hypothesis is the assessment of association of variables and phenomenon gathered and drawn out of past studies. The word empirical itself means facts collected after direct experiences and observations. The paper â€Å"Dialogue Concerning Natural Religion† by David Hume is portraying the beliefs and knowledge gathering based on empirical method. David believes that knowledge comes from evidential base, so whether the religion beliefs are right or wrong, and you can say rational or not. By applying empirical method technique, David has to analyze whether there are enough proofs and valid arguments regarding existence of God or it is just about a person born with a particular religion. Another benefit comes from empirical studies that you have to ask directly the related population of your research about the concerns of objectives. Empirical studies are basically divided into two main broad categories. They are Qualitative methods and Quantitative methods. Qualitative research is an analysis by interpretation of facts and information gathered from interviews and questionnaires filled in by the population sample. The analysis made is without the involvement of any number and quantifiable material or aspect. Qualitative research is based on directly interacting with the people and asking about the views and belief for specific object. Quantitative research on the other hand is totally based on the measurements of facts, relations significance, number involvements etc. the phenomenon and all the collected facts are gathered in the way that they can be measured and quantified. Checking in the strengths of empirical method in this paper let us discuss the methodology Hume adopted for the collection of religion beliefs facts. He did not ask if he could rationally prove that God exist. Rather all should come to the conclusions demonstrating God’s nature. For the sake, he described three characteristics of different point of views; Cleanthes, Demea and Philo. Interactions among the researchers and believers enabled the information to give fruitful and reliable results of topics. Quantitative methods are strongly beneficial for the discovery of facts related to measurable research like finance, economic integrations, and scientific facts. But this method cannot work efficiently in the research of human beliefs and views about a real truth. For this purpose of exploration about people thoughts and beliefs on universal truth direct interactions, interviews focus group discussions and arguments are best ways to analyze. This method is called Qualitative method as discussed above. Empirical studies give best results in the research of economic and finance related topics through quantitative methods. And political science, philosophies, universal truths etc tends to come out more beneficial through Qualitative methods. Understanding and gathering of knowledge comes from researching each fact and figure related to them. And research expertise comes from holding complete command on the methods of research e.g. metaphysical method of inquiry, empirical methods of inquiry etc. These techniques help a lot in

QUESTION 2 Advantage and Disadvantage of Text Text is silent communications. One of example in our real life is text messaging, it can send message to each other without other people being able to hear what is being said. It is privacy to exchange messages with each other without fear of other people knowing what you are talking about. The advantage of Text is text messaging is the ability to be able to send a message to someone to ask them to call you later regarding something important. At the same time, it doesnt interrupt them with a phone call. It allows them to respond back to you when it is most convenient to them. The disadvantage of Text is sometimes you dont receive all incoming messages from people. Often a personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s text messaging box will get so full with incoming and sent text messages. If the inbox gets too full then the person canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t receive anymore messages unless he or she deletes some of them. Advantage and Disadvantage of Audio Audio is sound within the acoustic range available to human. One of example in our real life is Audio Conference. It can communicate with other people. We can use mobile phone or use Internet to use the audio conference. The advantage of Audio is can combine with other media for example video, computer, MP3. When we are using audio conference, it cans potential for large number of lines on call. The disadvantage is noise can distract participants as well as cut out speaker. Audio is only the sound, it also limited visual stimulation. Advantage and Disadvantage of Video Video is the technology of electronically capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion. One of example in our real life is Video Conference. You can see the people face by video conference. The advantage of Video is when using video conference, it can see anyone you want to see, no matter what time of day it may be for anyone involved. Time differences between states and countries can be overlooked without anyone traveling long distances for the conference. The disadvantages are technical difficulties resulting from one or more of the following: software, hardware and network failure. Although advance testing could often identify technical trouble, the unexpected, spontaneous problem sometimes still arose minutes before or even during a videoconference. Advantage and Disadvantage of Graphic Graphic is a visual representation such as a photo, illustration or diagram. A graphic may contain text, but text by itself is not considered a graphic unless it is done in a stylized fashion. One of example in our real life is Advertisement. Because when we want to do advertise, we need do more creative in the poster. It uses a lot of graphic. The advantage of Graphic is quick way for the audience to visualize what you are saying, some of people more interest in the graphic than talk. The disadvantage of Graphic is it takes a lot of time to make. The cost also expensive, depending on the medium used. Advantage and Disadvantage of Animation Animation is a visual technique that provides the illusion of motion by displaying a collection of images in rapid sequence. One of example in our real life is Flash Video. It uses a lot of animation to make a flash video. Mostly animation is use for entertain people. The advantage of Animation is it more creative and mostly used the images like cartoon; it can make people attract it. The disadvantage of Animation is when makes a flash video and upload to Internet or blogger, when other people want to see this flash video, it take a lot of time to load or buffer.

The Subjugation of Women in The Yellow Wallpaper -- The Yellow Wallpape

The Subjugation of Women in The Yellow Wall Paper  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚      In the nineteenth century, women in literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of the period often characterized women as oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. The Yellow Wallpaper presents the tragic story of a woman's descent into depression and madness. Gilman once wrote "Women's subordination will only end when women lead the struggle for their own autonomy, thereby freeing man as well as themselves, because man suffers from the distortions that come from dominance, just as women are scarred by the subjugation imposed upon them" (Lane 5). The Yellow Wallpaper brilliantly illustrates this philosophy. The narrator's declining mental health is reflected through the characteristics of the house she is trapped in and her husband, while trying to protect her, is actually destroying her. The narrator of the story goes with her doctor/husband to stay in a colonial mansion for the summer. The house is supposed to be a place where she can recover from severe postpartum depression. She loves her baby, but knows she is not able to take care of him. "It is fortunate Mary is so good with the baby. Such a dear baby! And yet I cannot be with him, it makes me so nervous" (Gilman 642). The symbolism utilized by Gilman is somewhat askew from the conventional. A house usually symbolizes security. In this story the opposite is true. The protagonist, whose name we never learn, feels trapped by the walls of the house, just as she is trapped by her mental illness. The windows of her room, which normally would symbolize a sense of freedom, are barred, holding her in. (Biedermann 179, 382). From the outset the reader is ... ...f the wallpaper . . . "(Gilman 647).      Bibliography Anderson, Daniel. *http://cwrl.utexas.edu/~daniel/amlit/wallpaper/whywrote/htm* Why I Wrote "The Yellow Wallpaper"? Hollywood’s Negative Impact on Americans’ Body Image

The problem with this is that it is negatively effecting people and their views Of their self-worth. The negativity that Hollywood is pushing on body image greatly affects women in their teens as well as older women. The pressure to look just as beautiful as Hollywood stars is greatly detrimental to mental and physical health. For example there are disorders that are directly involved in the damage to the human body such as anorexia and bulimia. Both of which are disorders that are directly related to the way one sees oneself. In an age where image is everything, natural beauty is a thing that is narrowly promoted. This frame of mind is damaging and is changing the way people perceive beauty. Beauty is no longer modeled after natural body images, but is modeled after tan and toned supermodels with perfect hair and perfect skin. The reality is that not everybody fits this type of beauty. There is not only one form of beauty. Hollywood is guilty for its stars to have an army of makeup a rtists, hairstylists, wardrobe stylists and personal assistants that insure the star look as perfect as possible at all times. This gives the general public false ideals of what beauty is. Not everybody has an army of people around them constantly to ensure they always look perfect. This is one of the key factors that leads young people into believing a false definition of beauty. The front page of nearly every magazine contains the edited pictures of stars that hardly looks like their true selves. Again, overly traumatizing what the idea of beauty is. Instead of promoting these same liberties in a more natural way, they are depicted as a form of perfection that is highly unrealistic. This in turn promoting perfection instead of individual beauty. This is a continuous problem for America's societies because it forges unrealistic expectations of what people should look like. These expectations also push people into drastic measures. People have been resulting to extreme dieting to look skinnier or paying to have plastic surgery done. This problem also creates other problems such as stereotypes and not socially excepting people just because they are not attractive.

It is an integrated approach to managing relationships by focusing on customer retention and relationship development. CRM has evolved from advances in information technology and organizational changes in customer-centric processes. Companies that successfully implement CRM will reap the rewards in customer loyalty and long run profitability.(injazz J. Chen, Karen Popovich, (2003) Understanding customer relationship management (CRM): People, process and technology, Business Process Management Journal, Vol. 9 Iss: 5, pp.672 – 688) REALIZING BUSINESS   BENEFITS THROUGH CRM: HITTING THE RIGHT TARGET IN THE RIGHT WAY 1Dale L. Goodhue University of Georgia Barbara H. Wixom University of Virginia Hugh J. Watson University of GeorgiaMany companies are in the early stages of implementing customer relationship management (CRM). Although CRM promises increased revenues, profits, and customer service, companies face potential failure because of the complex technical and organizational issues involved. Our research on CRM, and six company experiences in particular, illustrate three CRM â€Å"targets† that companies aim for: implement a single or a few applications, create a strong infrastructure to support CRM, or use CRM to transform the organization. These targets have very different impacts and different challenges, as reflected in six lessons: They differ on both costs and benefits; sponsorship varies; each suggests a different evolution for a CRM effort; prepare to get your hands dirty in cleaning the data; ensure that the architecture will scale; and you can (sometimes!) teach old dogs new tricks. (MIS Quarterly Executive Vol. 1 No. 2 / June 2002) Dell is one of the most successful and profitable computer corporation in history. it has been known for its innovative customer services and product custom configuration. With the passage of organization continues to develop, it is confronting with more challenging environment of retaining its customers and maintaining relationship with them and finding new ways of management in order to meet the needs/demand of the customers, we have to identify opportunities to maintain and increase the revenue through   understanding of crm theories . The basic need of dell crm is to maintaining long-term relationship with customers as it is proved that gaining   a new customer is expensive than retaining the current ones. The main objectives of crm theory are acquiring customer, adding loyalty, retention customers, adding value. Crm is the â€Å"process of creating and maintaining relationships with business customers/consumers (moon2003).† Michael dell   with his limited resources started   focusing on in enhancing sales instead of locking capital in production, the new idea presented by dell was â€Å"building to order.† At one stage of its progress dell used this strategy of selling products directly through retail outlets. But the outcome from the implemented strategy was very unprofitable then he realized just to focus on customers,   service before â€Å"building to order†Ã‚   idea, people used to buy computers from retail out with no communications with manufactures only contact with sale person having lake of information regarding the product. Dell company is different from its competitors (HP, IBM, SONY, APPLE AND GATEWAY)   because dell is focusing on tools like, CRM-SCM, as a result dell become leader in customer relationship management (CRM) and in supply chain management (CRM). Dell is profit able computer organization known for computer software, hardware, and making computer components. According to Dedrick and Kracker(2006), â€Å"dell is aiming to combine the cost advantages of horizontal specialization with close coordination of vertical integration.† How to implement CRM(stages in implementing crm) The implementation of a customer relationship management (CRM) strategy is best treated as a six-stage process, moving from collecting information about your customers and processing it to using that information to improve your marketing and the customer experience. Stage 1 Collecting information(pre-relationship stage) Clearly, questions and uncertainties abound. We have a long way to go in capturing a customer’s psyche. But to compete for customer satisfaction, firms must work harder to collect, distribute and use the right data.(by Thomas H. Davenport, Jeanne G. Harris and Ajay K. Kohli January 15, 2001) The priority should be to capture the information you need to identify your customers and categorise their behaviour. Those businesses with a website and online customer service have an advantage as customers can enter and maintain their own details when they buy. Stage 2 Storing information(the early stage) The most effective way to store and manage your customer information is in a relational database a centralised customer database that will allow you to run all your systems from the same source, ensuring that everyone uses up-to-date information. Stage 3 Accessing information(the development stage) With information collected and stored centrally, the next stage is to make this information available to staff in the most useful format. Stage 4 Analysing customer behaviour(the long term stage) Using data mining tools in spreadsheet programs, which analyse data to identify patterns or relationships, you can begin to profile customers and develop sales strategies. Stage 5 Marketing more effectively(the final stage) Many businesses find that a small percentage of their customers generate a high percentage of their profits. Using CRM to gain a better understanding of your customers needs, desires and self-perception, you can reward and target your most valuable customers. Stage 6 Enhancing the customer experience Just as a small group of customers are the most profitable, a small number of complaining customers often take up a disproportionate amount of staff time. If their problems can be identified and resolved quickly, your staff will have more time for other customers. Applications and theories   of CRM: Crm is a vital element of business success. whenever   there a contact with   customers you get an opportunity to improve your standing   or in simpler words we can say that it’s a vital platform to gain reputation .this act will result in increase of further sales. It is not only contact that we talk of is necessary for sales, in broader terms , almost every aspect of your business affects the way your customers view your business. There are also specific programs you can put in place to increase your levels of customer care. Relationship marketing is concerned with how organizations manage and improve their relationships with customers for long-term profitability. Customer relationship management (CRM), which is becoming a topic of increasing importance in marketing, is concerned with using information technology (IT) in implementing relationship marketing strategies. This paper reports on a study of the adoption and use of CRM in the financial services sector. In particular, the key elements of CRM are examined in these organizations and executives perceptions of the main IT components that enable responsive CRM are explored. CRM is classified into five stages of sophistication and a framework for CRM adoption is developed. (Authors:  Ryals L.;  Payne A). (  Journal of Strategic Marketing, Volume 9,  Number 1, 1 March 2001 , pp. 3-27(25) CUSTOMER TOUCH POINTS Every time when company/organization come in contact with customer. Dell created strong relationship with customer as well as with the suppliers. The function of scm was to make sure the availability of computer Part on time, when and where required .dell managed   efficient and effective scm system to fulfil the demand of the customer.   Customer satisfaction model â€Å"we have an efficient cost structure with customers on one hand and suppliers on other†.(rollin,nov17,2006) satisfied customers will contribute to your business for years, through their purchases and through recommendations and referrals of your business. Bulid Customer loyalty schemes While good overall service is the best way of generating customer loyalty, sometimes new relationships can be strengthened, or old ones refreshed, using customer loyalty schemes. These are programmes that use fixed or percentage discounts, extra goods or prizes to reward customers for behaviour that benefits your business. They can also be used to persuade customers to give you another try if you feel you have successfully tackled past problems with your customer service. Fun Movie Titles in Japanese and English

Fun Movie Titles in Japanese and English The Japanese enjoy movies, eiga (æ˜  Ã§â€ »), very much. Unfortunately, it is a little bit expensive to see movies at the theater. It costs ~1800 yen for adults. Houga (é‚ ¦Ã§â€ ») are Japanese movies and youga (æ ´â€¹Ã§â€ ») are western movies. The famous Hollywood movie stars are popular in Japan as well. Girls love Reonarudo Dikapurio (Leonard Dicaprio) or Braddo Pitto (Brad Pitt), and they want to be like Juria Robaatsu (Julia Roberts). Their names are pronounced in a Japanese style because there are some English sounds that dont exist in Japanese (e.g. l, r, w). These foreign names are written in katakana. If you have ever had a chance to watch Japanese TV, you might be surprised to see these actors quite often in TV commercials, something you will almost never see in North America.   Japanese Movie Translations Some youga titles are literally translated like Eden no higashi (East of Eden) and Toubousha (The Fugitive). Some use English words as they are, though the pronunciation is slightly changed to the Japanese pronunciation. Rokkii (Rocky), Faago (Fargo), and Taitanikku (Titanic) are just a few examples. These titles are written in katakana because they are English words. This type of translation seems to be on the increase. This is because borrowed English is everywhere and the Japanese are likely to know more English words than before. The Japanese title of Youve got mail is Yuu gotta meeru (You got mail), using English words. With the rapid growth of personal computer and email use, this phrase is familiar to the Japanese as well. However, there is a slight difference between these two titles. Why have is missing from the Japanese title? Unlike English, Japanese has no present perfect tense. (I have got, You have read etc.) There are only two tenses in Japanese: present and past. Therefore present perfect tense is not familiar and confusing to the Japanese, even to those who know English. Thats probably why have is taken away from the Japanese title. Using English words is an easy way to translate, but it is not always possible. After all, they are different languages and have different cultural backgrounds. When titles are translated into Japanese, they are sometimes turned into totally different ones. These translations are clever, funny, strange, or confusing. The word used most often in the translated movie titles is probably ai(æ„›) or koi (æ â€¹), which both mean love. Click this link to learn about the difference between ai and koi. Below are the titles including these words. Japanese titles first, then original English titles. Titles Japanese titles(Literal English translations) English titles Ai ga kowareru toki(When love is broken) Sleeping with the Enemy Ai ni mayotta toki (When lost in love) Something to Talk About Ai no sentaku(The choice of love) Dying Young Ai to iu na no giwaku(The suspicion named love) Final Analysis Ai to kanashimi no hate(The end of love and sorrow) Out of Africa Ai to seishun no tabidachi(The departure of love and youth) An Officer and A Gentleman Ai to shi no aida de(In between love and death) Dead Again Ai wa shizukesa no naka ni(Love is in the silence) Children of a Lesser God Eien no ai ni ikite(Living in the lasting love) Shadow Lands Koi ni ochitara(When falling in love) Mad Dog and Glory Koi no yukue(The place love has gone) The Fabulous Baker Boys Renai shousetsuka(A romance novel writer) As Good As It Gets The funny thing is there is no word love in all these English titles. Does love attract more attentions to the Japanese? Whether you like it or not, you cant ignore the Zero Zero Seven (007) series. They are popular in Japan as well. Did you know that in the 1967s You Only Live Twice, Jeimusu Bondo (James Bond) went to Japan? There were two Japanese Bond girls and the Bond car was a Toyota 2000 GT. The Japanese title of this series is Zero zero sebun wa nido shinu (007 dies twice), which is slightly different from the original title You Only Live Twice. It is amazing that it was shot in Japan in 60s. The views of Japan are not quiet right sometimes, however, you could almost enjoy it as a comedy. In fact, a few scenes were parodied in Oosutin Pawaazu (Austin Powers). We have had the lesson about yoji-jukugo (four character kanji compounds). Kiki-ippatsu (Ã¥ ±Ã¦ ©Å¸Ã¤ ¸â‚¬Ã© « ª) is one of them. It means in the nick of time and is written as below (see #1). Because 007 always escapes from danger at the last moment, this expression was used in the description for 007 movies. When it is written, one of the kanji characters (patsu é « ª) is replaced witha different kanji character (ç™ º) that has the same pronunciation (see #2). These phrases are both pronounced as kiki-ippatsu. However, the kanji patsu é « ª of #1 means hair which comes from to hang by hair, and #2 ç™ º means a shot from a gun. Phrase #2 was made up as a parodied word that has two meanings in botits reading and writing (007 escapes in the nick of time with his gun). Because of the movies popularity, some Japanese miswrite it as #2. (1)Ã¥ ±Ã¦ ©Å¸Ã¤ ¸â‚¬Ã© « ª(2)Ã¥ ±Ã¦ ©Å¸Ã¤ ¸â‚¬Ã§â„¢ º

The Watergate Scandal Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

The Watergate Scandal - Research Paper Example The group of intruders along with the other accused administrative members was put on trial while President Nixon was forced to resign from his office in 1974. This entire series of events is called the â€Å"Watergate Scandal†. The Watergate Scandal â€Å"The Watergate Scandal† was a political scandal which occurred in America in the 1970s decade. It consisted of a series of unlawful events which was later attributed to certain important officials serving under the administration of the then US President Richard Nixon. They had wanted to secure some confidential information which would help them to secure the victory of Nixon in the US Presidential Elections of 1972. After the incident, members of the Nixon government tried to cover up the event and shield the men involved in the crime. Eventually, the US Police arrested the seven officials who had committed the burglary and implicated them on the basis of available evidence. Even, President Nixon was found guilty of a ttempting to shield the incident from being leaked out to the general people. Ultimately, Nixon had to resign from US Presidentship in the year 1974. The Watergate Scandal represented a series of unprecedented political events, which witnessed a US President resigning from his office for the first time in history. On June 16, 1972, seven American citizens planned a burglary in the office headquarters of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of the USA. The office was situated in the Watergate complex of Washington D.C, in one of the six buildings located over there. On the night of the robbery, the seven men gathered in the Watergate Hotel, situated in the same complex, which gave them easy access to the nearby DNC office. The actual attempt to secure the confidential information was carried out by five men, while two of them stayed back at the hotel to warn the others of any imminent danger. The burglars had also stationed an eighth man in a building, just in front of the DNC off ice, who would also be able to detect any dangerous signals. He was supposed to inform the two men in the hotel who in turn would convey this to the group of five intruders. As the five men made their up to the DNC office on the sixth floor of the concerned building, they placed recording tapes across the doors opening to the stairway on every floor. This would prevent the door from locking, thus leaving a route for the burglars to escape in case of any trouble. However, one of the security guards of the building found out this anomaly and informed the police. The Police arrived immediately and arrested the five men from the DNC office. The policemen were in plain clothes, and so the burglars’ watchmen were not alerted in time to inform the intruders of the lurking danger. The actual identities of the seven men were revealed after their arrest and none of them were common thieves. The group was led by G. Gordin Liddy and E. Howard Hunt, both of whom were former agents of repu ted intelligence agencies of the US. Liddy was a retired agent of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation, while Hunt had the experience of working with the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). They were assisted by five other men in this burglary: James McCord bore the telephone bugs, Bernard Barker carried cameras to secure photographs of the confidential documents, Virgilio Gonzales was responsible for breaking the locks of

An established founder of a therapeutic methodology or psychological Research Paper

An established founder of a therapeutic methodology or psychological researcher must be the author of the book - Research Paper Example The methods used by Freud in this investigation show a long and detailed relationship of increasing amounts of disclosure between the psychoanalyst and the patient. Freud notes almost as an afterthought that the patient became very dependent on him during this process. The patient would talk to the therapist about his childhood and his dreams as fair and even vital subjects for discussion and subsequent dissection by the therapist in terms of meaning and cause. As is usual in Freud, most of the causes found relate to some sort of incest fantasy involving the arrested development of the ways and through different frustrated relationships This case shows Freud’s treatment of â€Å"The Wolf Man,† an eighteen year old early adult with a fear of upright wolves and disturbing childhood dreams about wolves in trees. The patient’s sister used her knowledge of the patient’s fear of wolves to torment him during early childhood years. The patient was four years old when he had the dream about white wolves in a tree. Freud’s conclusions were ultimately that the adult’s obessional neurosis can be traced back to childhood experiences and desires during the patient’s early childhood stages, at which time he was anxious, hysterical, and had an animal phobia (Freud, 2009). I think that the case focuses on childhood and the patient’s dependent relationship to the therapist. The case was very long and drawn-out. Freud saw the patient’s childhood behavior in terms of relationships with his mother, his nanny, and his sister primarily, but also in terms of relationships with his father which started out positive and then changed when he became jealous of the attention his father paid to his sister. The aggression that the patient felt towards his nanny and sister are explained using Freud’s theory of the castration fear, as well as the patient’s remembered or fantasized portrayals of his
