The Cloning Debate :: Cloning Argumentative Persuasive Argument
The Cloning Debate à à à à à The first attempt in cloning was conducted in 1952 on a group of frogs. The experiment was a partial success.à The frog cells were cloned into other living frogs however, only one in every thousand developed normally , all of which were sterile. The rest of the frogs that survived grew to abnormally large sizes.à à In 1993, scientist and director of the in vitro lab at George Washington University, Jerry Hall and associate Robert Stillman, reported the first ever successful cloning of human embryos.à It was the discovery of in- vitro fertilization in the 1940ââ¬â¢s that began the pursuit to ease the suffering of infertile couples.à After years of research, scientists learned that "in a typical in-vitro procedure, doctors will insert three to five embryos in hopes that, at most, one or two will implant" (Elmer-Dewitt 38).à And that "a woman with only one embryo has about a 10% to 20% chance of getting pregnant through in-vitro fertilization.à If that embryo could be cloned and turned into three or four, thechances of a successful pregnancy would increase significantly"(Elmer- Dewitt 38). à à à à à The experiment the scientists performed is the equivalent of a mother producing twins.à The process has been practiced and almost perfected in livestock for the past ten years, and some scientists believe that it seems only logical that it would be the next step in in-vitro fertilization.à The procedure was remarkably simple.à Hall and Stillman "selected embryos that were abnormal because they came from eggs that had been fertilized by more than one sperm" (Elmer-Dewitt 38), because the embryos were defective, it would have been impossible for the scientist to actually clone another person.à They did however, split the embryos into separate cells, as a result creating separate and identical clones.à They began experimenting on seventeen of the defective embryos and "when one of those single-celled embryos dividedà into two cellâ⬠¦the scientists quickly separated the cells, creating two different embryos with the same genetic information" (Elmer-Dewitt 38).à The cells are coated with a protective covering "called a zona pellucida, that is essential to development" (Elmer-Dewitt 38), which was stripped away and replaced with a gel-like substance made from seaweed that Hall had been experimenting with.à The scientists were able to produce forty-eight clones, all of which died within six days.à Other scientist have been quoted saying that although the experiment is fairly uncomplicated, it had not been tested before because of the moral and ethical issues surrounding an experiment such as this one.à Some people believe that aiding infertile couples is the only true benefit to cloning human embryos,

Gender Roles And Attitudes Of A Teacher s Practice
The present essay attempts to demonstrate the stereotypes around gender and and itââ¬â¢s relation to a teacherââ¬â¢s practice. In order for this objective to be met, the theory of gender will be introduced, followed by the stereotypes regarding the gender ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢rolesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. Moreover the role of culture in the creation of gender roles and how popular culture-media carry stereotypes on children will be presented. This aims to show how a teacher can combat or prevent those stereotypes through her thoughtful, careful approach in the class. Based on the theoretical background biological sex is an organic matter in which a person belongs, for example if it is male or female. This separation is almost everywhere in nature [with some exceptions: hermaphroditeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Thus there is a complex relationship between sex and gender. Some people do not fully meet the biological characteristics of their sex, but they have lived their entire life as the ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢expectedââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ gender. Consequently gender is not only determined by the XX and XY genes. There is a complex relationship between biological characteristics and how society interprets them. Gender is determined by anatomy, biology, social and cultural forces, it is a legal and social identity. Gender roles are defined by behaviours ... gender stereotypes are beliefs and attitudes about masculinity and femininity ... but they tend to be related. When people associate a pattern of behaviour with either women or men, they may overlook the individual variations and exceptions and come to believe that the behaviour is inevitably associated with one, and not the other gender. Therefore, gender roles can become stereotypes. (Brannon, 1996: 168) Brannon describes the construction of stereotypes of masculinity and femininity of the standards real man and real woman . A real man should not do girlie stuff he should avoid them. He has to be a winner, to gain status, success and respect from its surroundings. He has to be a tough guy, strong, confident and support

President Andrew Jackson A Conflict of Interest Essay
Andrew Jackson is without doubt one of the most influential, controversial, and scandalous presidents that held the office. His ideas created the Democratic Party. His creation of the Democratic Party escalated tensions in Washington D.C. and across the political landscape. These actions led to the creation of an opposing second party. His extreme policies and loose interpretation of the US Constitution affected expansion, commerce, and politics of the nation domestically as well as in the international arena. Andrew Jacksonââ¬â¢s loose interpretation of the Constitution is validated by his statement ââ¬Å"Each public officer who takes an oath to support the Constitution swears that he will support it as he understands it, and not as it isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This prompted many to blame Jacksonââ¬â¢s policies for the depression and turn back to central banking and easy credit, thus ensuring that America would join the rest of the major countries of the world in carr ying a hefty national debt.(Walter) Jackson also failed to realize that if there is money to be handled there must be a way to store it and keep track of the money. Jackson denied the rights of Congress given to Congress in Article 1, section 8, clauses 1-3 of the United States Constitution. This section gives Congress the right to ââ¬Å"lay and collect taxes; to borrow money; to regulate commerce; to declare and conduct a war; and to raise and support armies.â⬠(Library of Congress) The point of conflict is that even though the right of the federal government to create a national bank is not stated it is implied because without a bank there is nowhere to store money allotted through this clause. In McCulloch v. Maryland (1819) it was determined that ââ¬Å"Congress may incorporate banks and kindred institutionsâ⬠(US Supreme Court Cases Opinions.) which established a precedence that was overlooked by President Jackson. Often people interpret Jackson as a free market supporter. Free market supporters assert that the government has little influence or interference in economic affairs, which is known as laissez faire. The idea of President Jacksonââ¬â¢s being a free market supporter is factiousShow MoreRelatedAndrew Jackson And The Removal Policy820 Words à |à 4 Pages The seventh president of the United States; Andrew Jackson, was not only notorious for his success as a general but also for his actions as president.
